Trin: Mommy, don't look until I'm all dressed and ready to go.
Me: Okay. (please don't wear your brown tights with the stripes, please don't wear your brown tights with the stripes. 3 days in a row now!!)
Trin: I'm ready, Mom. How do I look??
<------ (brown, striped tights)
(Day 4)
Me: What's with the hockey helmet?
Trin: "Oh, that's in case Sam kisses me too hard and I fall down."
Me: Go change your tights.
Trin: Umm.... No.
Me: (sigh) Okay.
This year, I'm picking my battles.
SAM may very well be laughing too hard at the helmet/tank-top combo to bother kissing her!

Yep, I'm with you on choosing your battles. It's just not worth it sometimes!
I agree! Let them wear what they want as long as it is weather appropriate. It is hard picking your battles sometimes...I have to do it with my husband every day!
I agree - better to pick your battles!
Her outfit reminds me of a one of my favorite segments from Sesame Street (set to a great song from 1935):

:)
God bless her future husband!!
LOL
my daughter went through a thing this summer where she refused to take her sandals off. it was such a fight at bedtime i finally just let her sleep in them.
you win some, you lose some--as long as you don't lose your mind!
Even if it isn't weather appropriate (okay not in sub freezing weather) but my boy while underage wore what they wanted with the exception of shirts with alcohol, drug or swearing/vulgar references on them. If you go out and are so cold you have to come home and get a jacket that is your tough luck.
If you wear shoes instead of boots and your feet are soaking wet. To bad for you.
She's quite the trendsetter -- although I'm a little concerned that Sam's kisses may be so hard she has to wear headgear for protection! :o)
It's the potential battles that you pass on that sometimes make the funniest stories ... and the best photos for bribing her once she gets a tad older, Sam has left the scene, and she has REAL boyfriends!
oh too sweet.. love what she had to say..
Boy she is a sassy little thing! Does she get that from anyone??? LOL!
Seriously! I think it's time someone went down to that school and Jacked the Samster UP!
Oh, what's that you say? He's like 5? My bad. ;)
Trinity is rockin' the tights...I'd wear them everyday if I looked that cute!
You're doing an excellent job, you know? She's tough and determined and smart. Sound like anyone you know?;)
Wow! What a determined face! I wish you luck when she is 11, 13, and 16. Those are the next power play years.
that must be some kiss...lol. maybe i will put my crash helmet on tonight...
If I looked owned badass tights like that and looked like that, never would I take them off. You rock for buying her cool tights as for agreeing that its fine to wear them AGAIN and AGAIN. Self expression is important. If you crush the more harmless attempts like this, my feeling is that the next attempts at self expression may be less harmless. "Hear me roar", I think is what she is saying. Awesome roar and style. Powerful sense of self and cursed with that dangerous kind of beauty. Maybe Sam should be pursuing some protective gear of his own.
of course there has to be a typo. dammit
totally baby's fault
Battles schmattles...She is simply awesome!
Sam fortune cookie warning: Don't encourage taking off tights....encourage keeping them on!!!!
I LOVE that!!!
plus the pic will make a great collage one day at a graduation, shower, or wedding :-)
Oh my God, I LOVE her!
And you for being such a cool mama!!
I kinda like the outfit!!! I think she is adorable!!!
I'm with KEL. I think she looks cute!
OMG our daughters were separated at birth!!
I LOVE how in your post title "Sam" is capitalized. OMG, you KILL me.
LOVE YOU.
LOVE TRINITY.
MUST see you sooooooon!
Great pictures!!
Nice tights... :)
I don't think I've ever been kissed so hard that a helmet was required. Maybe I was kissing the wrong boys...
Too Funny. Aren't kids great. DD used to go to school in the funniest get ups ... no hockey helmet though! I am so with you an picking my battles!
Absolutely adorable! Let her wear what she wants, take photos and show her later. Hee hee. One of my FAVORITE childhood photos is one of which I dressed myself: knee high blue and white striped socks, red shorts, white tank top, strawberry short cake necklace, black mary janes, and I even styled my hair in to a beautiful tangled ponytail. Right now, my daughter wants to wear dresses. Every day. With a serious face "Cuz I'm a princess Mom"
Just came by to thank you for the wonderful comment you left me!
That is so cute!! I love her tights!!
